of the Chinese bamboos (Bit#009)

The growth of the Chinese Bamboo Tree is a fascinating one. I would not want to own this plant i tell you! Here is how its growth looks like:

  • 1st year: we see no visible signs of activity.
  • 2nd year: no growth.
  • 3rd year: no growth.
  • 4th year: no growth.
  • 5th year : it grows 80 feet(24.384metres which is approximately 81 - 30cm rulers) in six weeks!

Incredible, yeah? (it is a true story-Not fiction)

Take Away:

  1. Question:

How long does it take a Chinese bamboo tree to grow 80 feet? 6 weeks or 4years?

In my meditation of this story, i was like "hold on! Wait a minute, that is not the entire story".

There is a missing piece: Let us review year 2,3 and 4 and add "above the soil" to no growth. so that we have it as:

  • 2nd year: no growth, above the soil.
  • 3rd year: no growth, above the soil.
  • 4th year: no growth, above the soil.

It needed 4 years of growing underground to develop a root system strong enough to support its outward growth.

The deeper the root the taller the tree.

2. There is no overnight success.

Your patience will be tested as a software engineer where you ,may start to wonder if your daily efforts (daily watering the Chinese bamboo seeds) are worth it. Overcome adversity and challenges even if you are unseen BUT ensure that you are taking action even as you are being made in the dark.

This is dedicated to you, who is toiling and can't see results at the moment. I have been there. I am still there. Go on working purposefully smartly!
